Sad Sack Super Bowl

Poor Broncos

Sorry to re-Sack the obvious... but waaaaait???
Wait.
I'm not sorry at all.
It's a SAD-SACK revival.
Welcome back The Sack!
Sorry Broncos fans- but maybe your pathetic Super Bowl disappointment has reunited the Sad Sack fans from around the world! All 3 or 4 of you.
Anyway- hats off to Peyton Manning and the whole Denver team for being a classy act.
Sad Sacks know what it's like to lose and keep their heads up.
Sack on, Sackers!

Rocky Balboa:
"Let me tell you something you already know. The world ain’t all sunshine and rainbows. It’s a very mean and nasty place, and I don’t care how tough you are, it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain’t about how hard you hit. It’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward; how much you can take and keep moving forward. That’s how winning is done! Now, if you know what you’re worth, then go out and get what you’re worth. But you gotta be willing to take the hits, and not pointing fingers saying you ain’t where you wanna be because of him, or her, or anybody. Cowards do that and that ain’t you. You’re better than that!"

Sacking the Sack

Anybody out there?
Just checking. I've been waiting to do this- but just haven't been motivated to contribute anything to this Blog. Kudos to the other Blogs that are able to maintain a consistent and viable forum. Here at Sad-Sack- we bow down and have to take a long look in the mirror. We suck and we're sad about it.
Yes, folks... we're Sad-Sacking ourselves.
Self-Sackination.
Sometimes it's the only choice.

Sad Spaniel

This a picture of my sister-in-law's dog. Apparently she enjoys torturing cute furry animals in her spare time. Have you ever seen anything sadder? Look at the despair on that poor doggy's face. If God wanted animals to wear extreme outdoor-wear he would have given them credit cards.
As of this writing, my sister-in-law sent back the boots. I think they just made her dog too sad.

Retro-Party Sacks

During one of my random trippings along the "inter-web", I came across this gem. Imagine the events that lead up to this scene- and what might have happened afterward.
There needs to be a documentary on this crew, because I have questions:
Who are they?
Where do they call home?
and-
What the hell are they celebrating?
One thing I think we can agree on-
You don't want to be in a knife fight with Jimbo over there.
Cheers, Party-Sacks!

Weird Sackage

Weird Science. Now that's a classic 80's film. You can probably nominate a couple of sad-sacks from that movie (I'm looking at you Wyatt and Gary). But for some unknown reason, I've been thinking about Chet lately. As an older brother, I know the nuances of picking on your siblings, and then coming around to regret being an asshole. It's just the way it is. However in this instance, Chet really did have to learn things the hard way. His humbling showdown with Lisa (the foxy Kelly LeBrock) is the stuff of legends. We all took pleasure in watching Chet grovel, and perhaps even felt pity in the end. Epic Sad-Sackedness and the transformative power of film and science!
I'm heading to Blockbuster after work...

Grunge-Sacker

This is what a post-grunge train wreck looks like. Courtney Love is definitely her own woman and not afraid to express herself. I applaud that.
However, there may be some age-appropriate fashion issues here. Looking like a spun-out flapper who was expelled from the Renaissance Fair, is not a good look. And the amount of thigh I'm seeing on the photo to the right is just wrong.
You know when you go to the grocery store and see a little kid wearing their soccer uniform, or their princess outfit, and you say: "Awww... how cute"?
This has the exact opposite affect.
Courtney Love is Sad-Sacking it here on many levels.

Sacky Album covers

So your dog is gay. It's ok. Christmas may have come and gone, but you can still celebrate any special occasion with some tunes that will make your four-legged pal's tail wag.

Happy New Year, Sackers!

Happy New Year to all. Here's hoping 2009 brings us some better news all around so we can stay on the lighter side of sacktitude. After all- who would you rather be in the photo above? For more party pics of those crazy kids, and more- check out: http://www.ewenspencer.com/

Until next year, Sackers... Have a great New Years and get ready to make it happen in '09.
Cheers!

Sacky- Gift

It's the thought that counts, right?
Well, Mehas- this ones for you.

Merry Christmas/ Happy Chanukah to all!

Santa Sack!

The sign reads: "The Sleigh Broke Down". Sad, alright. But judging from this Santa's calves and running shoes, he's still ready for action. That's the good news.
So kick down some skrilla for Santa, and for other folks in need. We all need a little help this time of year.

Feeling "festive" during the Holidays? Me too! Tread carefully, however. Looking like the dude pictured above is never becoming, especially at Christmas. You don't want to get carried away, and end up wrestling uncle Bernardo in your bathrobe on the front lawn again this year, right? Maybe it's just me.
Oh well- as The Season approaches, Have fun and be safe!
Cheers.

Blasphemy, right? Not so fast. Why are other museums sustaining their revenue under current conditions? Perhaps this is just a simple case of "survival of the fittest". Sorry, MOCA- but I gotta put you on blast here.
Dear MOCA,
You're slippin'. Did you really think that "Measuring Your Own Grave" and a show on California Conceptualism was going to sell tickets and inspire people to become/remain members in 2008? Uh, uh.
Louise Bourgeouise should have plenty to offer- but someone needs to send you a memo: PAINING IS STILL KING.

Yes, I am biased- and for good reason.
But, it seems like The Hammer and LACMA understand the reasoning. Painting, new or old still has the ability to provoke, inspire and instill wonder like no other medium. There- I said it. Of course, many art-school kids are going to shake their heads... but then they are probably the same people who are walking around an empty MOCA right now. Allen Kaprow and Lawrence Weiner: endless photographs/documentation of their performances/concepts? Y-A-W-N.

I think MOCA has been trying too hard to be "smart" and is suffering from it's own unwillingness to reach out to people who are hungry for a richer experience. It is OK for art to "entertain". Fun? Why not!
Quite simply, other institutions are currently doing a better job of remaining fresh, while still offering up varieties of historic and contemporary work (paintings) that reward the visitor for their time and money. At the very least, there are more options to choose from.
All is not lost. MOCA has had some great, vibrant shows in the past- certainly money-makers.
In 2007: Murakami, Rauchenberg, Tuttle, and "Skin and Bones". This year- not so much. I suggest MOCA re-think it's programming quickly if it wants to reach out to visitors and donors and stay afloat.
If not...you'll find me (and my membership) over at LACMA.

Please early Tom Hanks make all the bad ideas go away

We know how good Tom Hanks used to make us feel when we were 8 and he was rolling on the couch at a crazy bachelor party or eating that tiny salad corn like corn on the cob because he was a child in a grown man's body. And this movie represents the pinnacle of early Hanks-ness: magical, silly and utterly poignant. But now apparently they want to take all that away from us!! I just found out on Defamer that freaking Cameron Crowe is going to re-make this lovely slice of tropical heaven, sullying everything that is pure by involving Ben Stiller. Stiller was never magical! He was never even really funny, except maybe the concept of him being a superhero named Mr. Furious in Mystery Men was funny, but then when you actually watch the movie it's like whatever.

The Mighty Dolla 'ain't what it used to be

California is currently headed for "Financial Armageddon" according to "The Governator". Thanks for the New Years pep-talk Governor Schwarzenegger. We all know things are a little crazy out there right now. Serious stuff: Bankruptcies, Bail-outs and Corruption- OH MY! Yours truly is ducking and dodging (Sorry Visa/MasterCard) as we speak, and I KNOW I'm not alone.

Never fear, America. Sad-Sack Daily is still here for you. So what if the dollar is sagging? Gas prices are down, right? So, get out there and enjoy the simple things again. How about taking a picture of your old man, and placing his image on a dollar bill? See... Good ol'-fashioned fun!
It worked for me.

Corruption is the least of this guy's problems

Okay so dude was caught trying to slang Obama's Senate seat to the highest bidder, but somehow, nothing can suprize me when i'm staring a crazy 1980's stlye toupe right in the bangs. Look at that thing! Are those even still leagal? I mean forget the corrution charges, you take that blast from the past hairpiece and the rotund essence of his chin and that's enough to indite him right there. seriously.

Sad-Sickity-Sack

Fa-La-La-La-La! 'Tis the season to bundle up... and watch your back. You know they're out there- those co-workers, friends and fellow Metro-riders who are all trying to carry on their routine while battling some sort of cold and/or flu. OK- I'm guilty too. I guess it's just another form of selfish denial. Hey- "I'm not really sick". And- "I'm sure I'm not contagious".
Well... Let me just say "I'm sorry" now if I infect anyone.
And to anyone who gets me sick- "Thanks." Now I have a reason to stay home and sack-it.

Thanks.

Okay so things have been so un-sacky around here that our posts have not been so.. ahem.. daily. HOWEVER, the Holidays are upon us, and traditional thanksgiving crafts are in order. Unfortunately, our department contains a certain web designer who apparently does not feel the need to give thanks in the official hand turkey way. WHAT THE HELL ETHAN WHY DO ARE YOU SO INTO HALLOWEEN? IS IT COS YOU GET TO "PARTY" ON HALLOWEEN? WHAT'S WRONG WITH GETTING DRUNK ON TURKEY WITH YOUR UNCLE? YOUR PROFANE HAIRY MIDDLE FINGER IS CREEPING ME OUT COMPLETELY. jeez.

Cute Sack

Here's some Sackage that is just undeniably cute.
This guy is so sympathetic and understanding, that I want to come home and tell him about my day...every day.
Can you blame me?

Just hear me out on this one....

I know, at first look you're all what sacky dorkis even BOTHERED to create this half assed.... but then you explore the accompanying website http://www.tubcat.com/ and remember that images like this are why the internet was invented. Bringing silly shit to the people, viral email by viral email, office by office, because flying tubby and his kind are what keep the darkness at bay.
